douuuulos?

Love affair. When we here that phrase, there’s only one thing that comes into our heads. Oouuy! We can see in our mind’s eyes two hands clasped together, kisses, eye-to-eye contacts and if too impatient, a baby. Oh no, let’s forget all about those. That’s not what I’m trying to say. Love affair is something whose meaning is misunderstood. This also means an intense liking for something. Like a love affair with movies, songs, or even a love affair with MV Doulos.

MV Doulos is the ship that has just visited the Philippines this late January to the middle of February of 2007. So what’s so interesting with this ship? MV Doulos was built in 1914, and that’s just two years younger than the Titanic! And what’s more with it is the fact that it is the largest floating library in the whole world. And because it is a library, of course, you can find a lot of books there. They almost have every kind of book in there- from science, fiction, entertainment books such as about cookery and magic tricks, children’s books, different kinds of dictionaries, thesaurus, and more of God’s Words. They also have CD’s in that library about worshiping God’s Holy Name.

Well anyway, I’m sure you’ll also love the ship because of some of its special features.

When it’s out there under the heat of Mr. Sun, what do you like to eat? You don’t like to drink coffee, do you? Surely, you like the cold and the sweet one. That’s it exactly! I scream ice cream. And that’s not just an ordinary ice cream since it is from Doulos, meaning it is an international one. I mean most of the people that have gone aboard Doulos, ate that kind of Doulos ice cream. Imagine ice cream from abroad, made up of creams from different parts of the world, brought here. Well the price isn’t that surprising if it’s sold 30Php for every one cup. Anyway, it’s really mouth-watering and delicious just enough for the burning sun.

Another is the crew, they are really great. They can easily get along with us. Although they are from other countries, but through English, we can understand each other. It is only there that I proved to myself that there are really black skins. Because before I thought that black people have dark brown skins but I see it myself that’ it’s really black. But the color of the skin does not affect the dignity of an individual, right?

Another else is the structure of the boat itself. Because it was still built, as I’ve said, in 1914, you can see there that big chimney at the top of the ship (whatever would that term for that thing be). When you look at it from the ground you can’t figure out how old it is. The crew took care of it as a part of their lives, I mean they really tried to maintain its beauty as if it has just journeyed the seas for ten years. The air conditioned rooms hide the real age of 93 years plus the hi-tech function rooms for visitors.

Now its mission is not to transport passengers anymore but to serve people specially the poor as they preach the Word of God at the same time.

Doulos is such a great ship, isn’t it?
